Uvongo
General Information
Uvongo is a seaside resort south of Port Shepstone at the mouth of the Ivunga River in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.. Uvongo is the largest residential area on the lower South Coast. The river has a waterfall that plummets 23m down into the lagoon, creating one of the deepest lagoons in the country. The town is named after the Vungu River, which is derived from the Zulu word that describes the sound of a waterfall or the wind in a gorge.

Uvongo Activities
Uvongo is well known for its large rock escarpments that is thick with beautiful foliage and which shelters the beach. These shimmering waters make it an ideal place for water sports. With paddle boats available for hire, one can explore the river more fully. Beside the river runs a footpath which flows to the Uvongo River Nature Reserve. There is also a children’s paddling pool situated on the grassy banks shaded by trees. .
Spend the day relaxing on flawless beach or snorkelling in the warm waters that flow across the shoreline. Hawkers can be found on the beach selling their fruit, basketry and craft.
A must is to plan a visit to the Uvongo Bird Park. This amazing park offers walk-through aviaries where a diversity of vibrant bird life can be discovered. Enjoy refreshing drinks or tea in the garden while the children enjoy themselves in the play-park.
